Transitional Facility Operator Training
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) has introduced new requirements for Operators of Transitional Facilities. MAF require that all operators of transitional facilities (including facilities for sea containers) undergo a half-day biosecurity awareness training workshop to be an approved operator.
Some transitional facilities will also be required to have a trained deputy operator on the premises to cover if the primary operator is not present. This will only be required where one operator is currently in charge of more than one facility.
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic is an approved provider for this training and is delivering this workshop nation-wide.
Workshop Information:
- If a workshop is cancelled, participants will automatically be registered for the next available date at that location (confirmation will be sent).
- Workshops will only run subject to sufficient demand.
- Additional on-site workshops can be run for larger companies.
- Additional workshops will be run as required.
- Normal workshop hours are 8:30 - 12:30
Workshop Outcomes:
Once you have completed the workshop you will have a better understanding of your role in biosecurity and the expectations of you as a transitional facility operator.
Having completed the workshop you will be able to:
- Describe what biosecurity is and why it is important.
- Explain the pathway that an import may take and identify where its key biosecurity checkpoints would be located.
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of the main players in biosecurity.
- Describe the links between legislation, standards, and operating manuals.
- Explain the legal requirements for biosecurity in New Zealand and the consequences of not complying.
- Identify the required biosecurity procedures for your own transitional facility to meet the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) biosecurity standards.
Workshop Essentials to Bring:
- Currrent approved Operating Manual (or draft if you are not yet fully approved by MAF).
Each operator facility is required to have an approved Operating Manual. This manual tells MAF how you run your facility. During the workshop you will need to refer to this manual so please ensure you bring the latest version with you.
- Photo ID (passport, drivers licence) to provide proof of person for the certification processes.
