Yet another successful year for Bay of Plenty Polytechnic

Highlights for 2009 included:
- Sam Honey, Senior Academic Staff Member and Programme Co-ordinator for the Certificate in Preparation for Law Enforcement, was awarded a Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award
- Pikiarero, the Teaching and Learning Development Centre, and Kahurangi Student Services excel together to support both our students and staff in their learning and teaching in and out of the classroom
- Working together with the University of Waikato, Tauranga City Council and Priority One to gain a better understanding of the current and future tertiary education and research needs and demands in the Western Bay of Plenty
- Supporting young people by providing 40 places under the National Party’s Youth Guarantee Programme
- Development of seven new programmes, two pathways and one major as well as redevelopment of five programmes working closely with local and national industry
- Building community connections on campus through our partnership building with the University of Waikato and the new Applied Technology facility, in which the Titanium Industry Development Association (TiDA) has joined us
- With community partnership and involvement integral to our philosophy, we announced new strategic partnerships and sponsorships with Sports Bay of Plenty, Food Bay of Plenty, Bay of Plenty Steamers, Westpac Business Awards
- New scholarships created for athletes, employees of community organisations and second-chance learners.
- Building new collaboration with ITPs through Tertiary Accord of New Zealand (TANZ)
- Collaborative research with Tranzqual, the Road Transport Industry Training Organisation (ITO), on the feasibility of a National Centre of Expertise for Road Transport and Logistics in the Bay of Plenty
- Continued success at Pasifika: Fashion student Shenade Smith - Runner up Supreme Award and Winner of the Flava 96.1 Urban Streetwear section, Trish Strongman - Winner Pacific Blue Pasifika Bridal Wear, Fashion tutor Donna Dinsdale - Winner Pasifika Menswear.
- Students continue sporting success, becoming New Zealand’s next generation of top athletes
