The Business Development Centre (BDC) provides a focal point for the design and delivery of customised training, business consultancy and applied research services for the business community and local government.

Working within New Zealand and internationally the BDC has a strong focus of identifying and developing new opportunities for the benefit of the Bay of Plenty region and Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.

The BDC utilises the knowledge, experience and skill of over 300 subject specialists and researchers across the Polytechnic's four schools to provide training and research solutions to our business clients. Additionally the team works on a national basis and interlinks with technology institutes and polytechnics nationally through the TANZ network.

The international section of the BDC is active globally with an ongoing presence in:

  • India
  • Vietnam
  • Indonesia
  • South America – mainly Brazil and Chile

Projects have also been actioned in Saudi Arabia, China, Japan and Korea, amongst other parts of the world.

The centre consists of six business professionals. All the Business Development Centre staff have extensive experience in business both in New Zealand and offshore and among them speak 8 languages including Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Spanish and French.

Bay of Plenty Polytechnic's BDC provides professional skills and resources to develop and support new and existing business and educational initiatives to further the development of the Bay of Plenty region.

"The goal of this centre is to assist individuals and New Zealand businesses in lifting their skills and productivity," says CEO Alan Hampton.
