Two students at a computer

Here are some of the questions we hear most commonly from students.

What's the Electronic Information Resource Agreement?

The Electronic Information Resource Agreement (pdf 286kb) (EIRA) is an agreement between you and Bay of Plenty Polytechnic. Please read it carefully as your signature on the enrolment declaration indicates that you agree to abide by the conditions and guidelines outlined inside.

I'm having trouble logging in / I forgot my password and now I'm locked out. What do I do now?

Contact either of the Information Centres, or Ako Awe at Windermere and they'll reset it for you.

How do I top up my printing account?

Top up payments can be made to the cashier at either Information Centre (cash only) or by Eftpos at the Ako Awe, Windermere.

Can I access the H drive from home?

No, only staff have remote access to the H drive.

How do I log on to the Polytechnic webmail?

Visit this webmail link and type in your network username and password. There's also a webmail link in the footer of this website, on every page.

How long does my data stay on the H drive after I’ve left the Polytechnic?

Your data stays active until the end of the year or until thirty days after the end of your programme, whichever comes first. After this it's deleted for good so make sure you copy anything you need before it expires.

How do I connect my laptop to the wireless?

Have a look at our Lightwire FAQs.

What does it cost to access the internet from the Polytechnic?

You get 1GB a month for free and if you need more, you can top up your account on https://www.lightwire.co.nz/plans/.

Can I access social media (e.g. Facebook) from the Polytechnic computers?

Not at this stage though the policy is currently under review.

Can I buy a cheap computer and/or software through the Polytechnic?

Yes. We have a special arrangement with www.lapshop.co.nz  You will need to provide evidence that you are a student here, before you can place your order.

How can I find out the balance on my printing account?

Check your print balance on iBase in the top right hand corner, or at Ako Awe. If you're a Waikato student you can find your print balance on the Waikato website under 'unicash'.

How do I top up my printing account?

Your logon will have an initial print account set up with a dollar amount related to the course you are doing. To top up your account, see the cashier at either of the Information Centres (cash only) or you can pay by Eftpos as Winderemere's Ako Awe.

If you're a Waikato student you can top up at the main Informaton Centre or if you're visiting Windermere and have your student ID and Eftpos card, at the drop-in computer lab in the Ako Awe. At Bongard you can top up in the main foyer.

Can I keep my boppoly email address after I leave?

Sorry, no you can't.

I’ve changed my email address and now my Baylearn stuff’s not coming through. Who do I notify?

Get in touch with the Information Centre or Ako Awe and they'll update your records for you.

I have a vision impairment. Can I get a screen reader from you?

Sure can! Find out more about this on our Disability Services section.

I can't get on to Lightwire. What now?

Your best bet is to contact Lightwire direct on support@lightwire.co.nz or call them on 0800 12 13 14

Why can't I print?

Firstly check you have enough credit on your printing account (see question above).

Waikato Students If you're logging on from a remote computer and using a memory stick DON'T use the pop-up window to access your files. Instead close the pop-up window and use the START menu in the bottom left taskbar to go via MY COMPUTER to your memory stick and E drive. This ensures you're connected to Unicash. (If you use the pop-up window you'll find yourself in the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic system and won't be able to access Unicash. An easy way to tell which system you're in is to look at the main taskbar at the bottom of your screen. If it's grey your in Waikato's system, if it's blue you're in Bay of Plenty's).

I saved a document to my desktop and now it's gone. Where is it?

Unfortunately it's proabably been deleted. You need to save anything you want to keep to the H drive. (Look for your user name under 'Network Drives' from MY COMPUTER.

Why can't I see the full list of students in my email contacts?

It's not available from Webmail.

Where's my PIN number for photocopying and after hours access?

From the desktop click the Customer Services icon. Type in your student ID and follow the prompts to find your PIN number.

The printer's broken/out of paper. Who do I call after hours?

Security can help you with this. (They're multi-talented you know!)
