Borrowing Information
Find out about:
Who can use the library, borrowing, loan periods, renewals, overdue fines and non-return of, or damage to borrowed library items
Who Can Use the Library
- All staff and students (Including University of Waikato at Tauranga) have free access to both the Windermere and Bongard libraries
My Account
- You have access to your own library account via the 'My Account' feature in the catalogue. This allows you to renew items, place request, and check your due dates
- To access 'My Account', you'll need your ID number
Borrowing
- Your I.D. card is also your library card
- You must present your I.D. card to borrow library items
- As you are responsible for all items borrowed on your ID card, it's recommended that you don't lend borrowed items to anyone else
- 50 items can be borrowed at any one time
- Remember to return items to the library on time. Fines are charged on recalled items that are returned late.
- If the library is closed, return items in the after hours return bins near the entrance
- To return items by post, address to Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, Private Bag 12001, Tauranga 3143
Loan Periods
- The normal loan period for students is two weeks
- High demand items are issued for one week, or three days
- 'Course Reserve' items are issued for two hours, for use only in the library or overnight
- 'Not for Loan' and reference items are only for use in the library
- Items may be recalled if they're needed by someone else
Fines
- Overdue fines will be charged for recalled items that are returned late
- Fine charges are $3 per day following the current due date, up to a maximum of $30 per item
- Course reserve & laptop overdue fines = 20 cents per hour
Renewals
- Renewal is from the date renewed
- Three renewals are allowed for normal 2 week loan items
- One renewal is allowed for short term loans (3 day and 1 week loans)
- An item will not be renewed if another borrower has placed a request on that item
Request
There are three ways to request an item via 'My Account'
Recall: For an item currently on loan that you require urgently (within the next two weeks)
Hold: For an item currently on loan that is non-urgent
Hold Available: For an item that is available at Windermere or Bongard libraries
Non-return or Damage to Borrowed Library Items
- If items are not returned within 12 weeks past the due date, or are returned damaged, an invoice for replacement and associated charges will be sent to the borrower
- Once invoiced, items may NOT be returned for a refund
- You may be charged for damage to items
