Guide to Interloans
Can’t find what you want in our library? You may need an interloan.
What is an interloan?
An interloan is a way to borrow books, journal articles etc. from other New Zealand libraries, that the Polytechnic library doesn't have.
How do I request an interloan?
Step 1. Make sure the item is not available from our library. For books check the catalogue, for articles check the electronic databases.
Step 2. Complete the Interloan Request form (also available from the Library Issue Desk) or email: interloans@boppoly.ac.nz
Step 3. State whether you are willing to pay
Step 4. Deliver the form to the library or send request via email
How much does an interloan cost?
Some items are free, others are up to $20 each. Bay of Plenty Polytechnic has reciprocal arrangements with some New Zealand libraries which means the libraries have agreed to loan books to each other free of charge. If the “reciprocal” libraries do not have the item you request it may be borrowed from a library that charges a fee. Charging libraries will only be contacted if you have agreed to pay.
How will I know when the interloan has arrived?
The library will email or phone you when your request has arrived (usually 5-10 days)
How long can I have the interloan item for?
The loan period of books is set by the lending library, and is usually 2–3 weeks. Journal articles are photocopies and may be kept. Copyright photocopied articles obtained through interloan are for your research and/or teaching purposes only. Under the terms of Copyright Act 1994, no further copies may be made.
