Some tips for successful searching - Too many hits?
- Use quotation marks for phrases “Bay of Plenty” , “Treaty of Waitangi”
- Use + before essential words web +internet
Not enough hits?
- Use ? to truncate words e.g. tour?
- Use OR to combine synonyms (popular OR common OR favourite OR favorite) NB. Place brackets around OR statements
- Check your spelling
- Check for alternative spelling. Eg. color / colour , web-site / website
Title begins with… Use if you know the exact first words of the title. Omit any article (a, an, nga, te, the) when it's the first word e.g. Power and the Glory not The Power and the Glory.
Author Use to find works by a specific author, editor, organisation or government department. Enter family name, then first name or initial e.g. shakespeare w or University of Waikato.
Call Number Type in the call number using all punctuation, prefixes and spaces e.g. 382.1042 POR
Subject Subject headings are library-allocated terms e.g. Tourism New Zealand or a narrower heading; Tourism New Zealand social aspects.
