Hands-on experience ensures carpentry students are work-ready.

You can’t beat hands-on experience for learning and that’s exactly what our carpentry programmes offer students.

The Level 3 carpentry programme teaches students using a mix of theory based classes and practical on-the-job activities – and now is the time to get qualified with predictions for major growth in the construction industry.

“Some people have backed off engaging in training because the industry has slowed down but this is exactly the right to time to train,” says Group Leader Brian Dillon. “Get industry ready and future proof yourself when the demand for builders increases.”

Brian says the best part of the course is the practical nature of the training, where students are required to build a house as part of a team, learning everything first hand from foundations to finishing work.

“The students are learning the trade by doing the work, as well as reading books and doing workshop tasks. It’s good for them and good for future employers to know that our students have been involved in building one house by the time they finish the course.”

Included in the programme is a work experience component of 20 days, which can be completed two days a week or during work experience and term break blocks.

After they’ve completed the Level 3 programme, students are ready to enter the workforce as an apprentice, a position often picked up through organised work experience, and after 3.5 – 4 years of site work, they can complete the Level 4 qualification and become a qualified builder.
