National Diploma in Quantity Surveying Level 6

If you're good with details and like working with numbers, a career in quantity surveying could be right for you. This course of study will provide you with the skills and knowledge you'll need to develop your career.

You’ll gain a solid understanding of preparing schedules of quantities for labour and materials, preparing tender documents and feasibility studies, controlling costs, and administrating construction finances.

Year One
Course 1 - Construction Elements

Knowledge of methods and materials used in construction

Course 2 - Written Communication
Develop written communication skills

Course 3 - Building Law and Environment
Legislative requirements in the construction industry

Course 4 - Estimation
Learn the basics of estimating and bidding

Course 5 - Introduction to Quantity Surveying
Develop measurement skills and understand the principles of quantity surveying

Year Two
Course 6 - Contract Administration

Administration of contracts

Course 7 - Quantity Surveying
Develop quantity survey skills in relation to trades other than carpentry

Course 8 - Construction Methodology
Construction methodology for medium to large buildings

Course 9 - Advanced Estimation
Extend on the estimation skills developed in Course 4

Course 10 - Communication
Develop oral communication skills for the building industry

Work Experience
For full-time students, included in each year of the programme is a work experience component.

 

Entry

The minimum requirements for entry into this programme are:

  • 4 unit standards from the maths subfield at Level 1 including 3 algebra unit standards and 1 trigonometry unit standard
  • 5 unit standards from the maths subfield at Level 2 including 1 unit standard in each of the algebra and trigonometry domains
  • OR ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skill

Mature students with life skills and/or work experience who do not meet these requirements but have the equivalent ability and experience are encouraged to apply. Students are required to complete one year before proceeding to year two of the programme.

Flexi-Learn

In addition to the above you must already be working in the construction industry.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 550.

Indicative Fees

  • $5,752 full time Year 1 incl. course related costs
  • $5,331 full time Year 2 incl. course related costs
  • $2,379 per year, Flexi-Learn option

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.
