Certificate in Work Skills (Supported Learning) Level 1

This course of study is particularly suited to people with an intellectual disability. Come learn with us! We'll help increase your opportunities for paid employment, and you'll love our supportive, student-focused environment.

This is a very practical programme with classes usually held 3 days a week and up to 2 days in work experience so you can develop the skills you've learned. Modules include preparation for work, health, safety and wellness, personal identity and care, work experience and a Unit Standards elective.

Preparation for Work
What you need to know to prepare for a job.

Health, Safety and Wellness
You will learn about personal care and health, and safety issues in the workplace and in the community.

Personal Identity and Care
During this course we will look at ‘who we are’ and how we relate to other cultures. You’ll learn about Mäori values and traditions and how friendships are developed and maintained.

Work Experience
You will get the opportunity to experience a real workplace while you are learning with us.

Unit Standards Elective
You will be able to choose if you want to be assessed for unit standards. These unit standards go towards a national qualification.

Entry

You don’t need any academic or school qualifications to enrol in this programme, but you do need to be at least 17 years of age.

We are looking for people who, although needing support from us, are keen to learn, meet new friends, enjoy polytechnic life independently and most importantly, gain some valuable employment and personal skills.

Indicative Fees

  • $4,016 per year incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

On successful completion of the programme you will receive:

  • Certificate in Work Skills (Supported Learning) Level 1

You may also be able to achieve enough credits to receive the:

  • National Certificate in Work and Community Skills (Supported Learning) Level 1
