Certificate in Small Business Management - New Zealand Institue of Management (NZIM) Level 4

Are you an entrepreneurial spirit? This course of study is specifically designed for people working in, or planning to start a small business.

You'll gain the skills and knowledge to assist you in the setting up, management and expansion of a small business through courses in business concepts, business performance, risk minimisation and staff management.

Content Details

Paper Selection
To gain the qualification you need to complete a total of 8 papers - 4 compulsory and 4 optional. You may choose to enrol part-time in the individual papers that interest you. Papers are offered on a semester basis. Refer to the ‘Dates/Times/Duration’ section in the brochure.

To complete both the Certificate in Management and Certificate in Small Business Management, you need to pass 12 papers including the compulsory papers from both qualifications.

Note: Prior to enrolling in this paper you should have successfully completed 851, 852, 853 or have equivalent knowledge.

Entry

Open entry, although students with no or limited workplace experience may be required to attend an interview. Refer to the programme brochure for guidance about school subjects that would help you succeed in this programme.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $351 per course, incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

Upon successful completion of each paper you will receive a Statement of Achievement  Certificate awarded by the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM).  Upon successful completion of the required 8 papers you will receive the nationally recognised:

  • NZIM Certificate in Small Business Management

As a graduate you may use the distinguishing letters ‘CSBM’ after your name. Provided you have achieved at least a B grade average you may apply for two credits towards the New Zealand  Diploma in Business (435 Fundamentals of Small Business Management and a 400 level unspecified paper).

Study Pathways

Completion of this certificate gains entry into the NZ Diploma in Business with course credit.
