National Certificate in Road Transport Management (Operations) Level 4

The programme will equip you with new skills; managing staff and vehicles, understanding road transport related contract laws, and interacting with customers, regulatory authorities and industry groups. It also leads on to a heap of other study options that will improve your career prospects.

Content Details

The programme includes the following five courses:

Business Management
You will learn to:

  • Write everyday business correspondence conveying complex ideas and information 
  • Competently manage despatch of vehicles
  • Load and secure goods within transport operations
  • Have a working understanding of fleet characteristics of both heavy goods motor vehicles and passenger service vehicles.

Cost and Benefit
Gain an understanding of effective road transport operation and apply your knowledge of costs related to pricing services and vehicle purchasing.

Compliance
You will gain knowledge of law as it relates to contracts in the road transport industry, have the skills and knowledge to check vehicles and drivers for compliance, and be able to effectively apply occupational health and safety requirements.

Personnel Development
As well as learning to manage your own personal well-being and development, you will also gain the necessary skills in staff development and delegation to achieve the best staffing outcomes within a road transport operation.

Leadership
Develop your leadership skills, including learning to apply problem solving techniques in difficult situations and managing interpersonal conflict and difficult people within a road transport operation.

Entry

It is expected that you will be employed or have experience in the logistics or transport industry. Some aspects of this programme require experience in the workplace to be able to pass the method and level of assessment required. You are expected to demonstrate appropriate computer skills.

Academic Requirements

  • NCEA Level 2 or equivalent school qualifications, or comparable skills and knowledge learned in the workplace.
  • Good skills in the areas of numeracy and literacy are essential to succeed in both the industry and this programme.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $2,733 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.
