National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care Level 3

This course of study will give you the basic skills and knowledge your need for the education and care of infants, toddlers and young children in Aotearoa New Zealand.

You'll take courses in early childhood education theory and practice, family/whanau, community and society, professional practice, food technology and nutrition.

Introduction to Young Children’s Health and Safety
Learn how to provide a safe and healthy environment for young children.

Introduction to Young Children’s Play
Communicate, work and play with children effectively.

Introduction to Young Children’s Development
Learn about children’s development and use that knowledge to provide for the basic needs of young children.

Family, Whanau and Community
Gain an understanding of the professional role of early childhood educators and their relationship with parents, whanau and early childhood agencies.

Communicating with Young Children
Learn to communicate with young children and guide their behaviour appropriately.

Introduction to Professional Practice
Relate the relevance of Te Whäriki to early childhood education and care and use that knowledge to develop a programme for young children in an early childhood setting.

National Certificate Early Childhood Level 3

Entry

You must:

  • have NCEA Level 1
  • or, be a mature student with life skills and/or work experience with equivalent ability and experience

Police Check
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic will complete a police clearance check on prospective students and entry will be provisional until this has been completed.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 550.

Indicative Fees

  • $2,528 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

On successful completion of this programme you will receive:

  • National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care Level 3
  • Comprehensive First Aid Certificate
