Electrical Safety Refresher

Is your EWRB-required safety training current for electrical registration? In just one, five-hour study course you can meet your obligations and have peace of mind.

In order to renew your Electrical Practising Licence, the EWRB (Electrical Workers Registration Board) requires you to attend an Electrical Safety Refresher (also known as ‘Competence programme’) every 24 months to satisfy the requirements of the Rules of the Board, the Electrical Act 1992, the Electrical (Safety) Regulations 2010 and their subsequent amendments.

This course is suitable for the following classes of Registration; Electricians, Electrical Engineers, Electrical Installers, Electrical Appliance Servicepersons- EAS & EASQ, Electrical Service Technician – EST and Associated Tradespersons.

We are unable to deliver the Electrical Safety component of this course to Electrical Inspectors at present.

Note: This course no longer includes ‘Safe Working Practices’, and therefore is not suitable for electrical workers who are applying for a Trainee Limited Certificate or a Limited Certificate (for overseas applicants).

Content Details

This 5 hour programme includes two modules. You may enrol for one or both modules depending on your individual needs.

  • Electrical Safety (3 hours)
  • First Aid/CPR Refresher (2 hours)

If you are a holder of a current First Aid/CPR certificate (completed within the last two years), you may enrol for just the Electrical Safety module (three hours).

Note: Note: The First Aid/CPR modules are refreshers only (you must be the holder of a current First Aid/ CPR certificate covering the requirements of NZQA Unit standards 26551/26552 or 6401/6402).

Entry

You must be working in the electrical industry.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.  

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $106 Electrical Safety Refresher, incl. course related costs
  • $66 Electrical Safety
  • $40 First Aid/CPR Refresher
  • The published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens, residents and international students.

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

Upon successful completion of the Electrical Safety Refresher:

  • Confirmation will be sent to the EWRB of you having completed your Electrical Safety and/or First Aid/CPR training
