National Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 2

Power into a career in the electrical and electronics industry. This course of study will give you the qualification you need to further your training at a higher level, and you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to work safely in the electrical field.

Gain basic practical and theoretical knowledge in electrical and electronics, as well as basic first aid skills. The programme includes courses in communication and employment rights.

  • Capacitors, diodes and rectification
  • Magnetism and electromagnetism
  • Measuring instruments
  • Basic mechanical principles and mathematical calculations

Practical Skills

You’ll learn techniques relating to:

  • Plugs, sockets and flexible cords
  • Soldering and de-soldering procedures
  • Replacing fuse links and circuit breakers
  • Testing and locating faults

Safety

Learn safe working practices, including:

  • Lifesaving procedures
  • Electrical safeguards used to protect persons and property
  • First aid and CPR

Mathematics Skills

Additional time is provided for students who require development in their mathematical skills. This is to enable students to undertake the level of learning required to gain the qualification and to ensure appropriate skill level for programmes at Level 3 and higher.

Entry

Refer to programme brochure for guidance about school subjects that would help you succeed in this programme. You will need at least NCEA Level 1 maths and science or equivalent knowledge.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $2,013 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.
