National Certificate in Electronic Engineering Level 3

Get a great job in the electronics industry with this full time course of study. Once you've successfully completed the programme you'll be able to work as an apprentice technician in telecommunications, and consumer and industrial electronics.

You’ll learn a wide range of practical and theoretical skills relevant to the electronics industry and have a chance to put them into practice with work experience. You'll be introduced to digital logic devices, location and repair of faults in electronic equipment and much more.

Practical Skills
You’ll learn about, and gain practical experience in:

  • Building and testing electronic circuits
  • Advanced soldering and de-soldering procedures
  • Operation of sophisticated test equipment
  • Testing and fault-finding electronic equipment
  • Techniques relating to plugs, sockets and flexible cords
  • Workshop fabrication skills

Electronics Theory
Discover the world of electronic circuitry. Learn about:

  • Atomic theory
  • Resistance
  • Ohm’s Law
  • Capacitors
  • Electronic terms and symbols
  • Semi conductors
  • Power supply systems
  • Electronic drawings
  • Digital principles
  • Audio amplifiers
  • Microprocessors and mathematical calculations

Safety
Learn about advanced methods of ensuring your safety, and the protection and testing of appliances.

Industry Experience
The programme includes work experience of one day per week in industry so you can use the skills you have learnt at the polytechnic in the workplace and gain valuable work  experience.

Entry is open, but it is preferable that you have:

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $4,773 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.
