Certificate in Welding Level 3

This course of study is your ticket to employment as a welder or apprentice in production welding, transport engineering or in the manufacturing sector for the construction industry.

You’ll learn to weld different grades and thicknesses of steel with MMAW (Arc), GMAW (Mig), GTAW (Tig) and thermal cutting processes. You'll also gain skills in engineering measurement, drawing interpretation, workplace safety and first aid, and you'll have the opportunity to sit your AS/NZS2980 (replacing NZS4711) Welding Ticket.

Content Details

You will gain a good grounding in the theoretical and practical components of welding which you will then put into practice during work experience. The programme content prepares you to:

  • Operate in a workshop situation using sound welding techniques
  • Weld mild steel using MMAW (Arc), GMAW (Mig), FCAW processes
  • Weld aluminium and stainless steel sheet using GTAW (Tig) processes
  • Interpret structural engineering drawings under supervision
  • Use measuring equipment
  • Gain AS/NZS2980 Welding tickets in Arc and/or MIG (solid wire and flux core wire)

This programme encompasses New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) unit standards.

Entry

Open entry, however you are more likely to succeed if you have life and/or work experience which is relevant to the programme and are able to demonstrate that you have the ability, interest and motivation to succeed in the programme. Refer to the programme brochure for guidance as to what school subjects may help you succeed in this programme.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $3,693 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

On successful completion of this programme you will receive:

  • Certificate in Welding Level 3
  • Comprehensive First Aid Certificate
  • AS/NZS2980 Welding ticket
