Certificate in Introductory Hairdressing Level 2

Aspiring hairdressers start here! Our passionate team of tutors will introduce you to the ever-changing world of hairdressing. This course of study equips you with introductory skills in hairstyling and colour services.

Learn the technical aspects of hairdressing in shampooing and trichology courses, along with health, safety and customer care and service skills.

On completion, you'll have the confidence and skills to pursue further study in hairdressing.

Content Details

You'll begin your learning working on mannequins and peers before being introduced to real clients in our Atrium Hair Design training salon. The programme introduces a variety of knowledge and skills including:

Client Communication and Reception Services

  • Communication and client service and care
  • Merchandising and displays

Health and Safety and Salon Procedures

  • Selling goods and services
  • Health and safety
  • Basic first aid
  • Salon procedures and equipment maintenance
  • Personal presentation

Hairdressing Science

  • Trichology – the study of the hair and scalp
  • Shampooing
  • Application of treatments
  • Selection and recommendation of hair products

Introduction to Colour Services

  • Colour selection
  • Colour application and removal

Introductory Styling Skills

  • Blow drying and setting
  • Long hair styling
  • History of hair design

Entry

School leavers must have:

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $2,642 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

Upon successful completion of the programme you will receive:

  • Certificate in Introductory Hairdressing Level 2
  • NZQA credits towards the National Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) Level 3
  • NZQA credits towards the National Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist) Level 4
