Growsafe Spray Safety Certification

Gain the skills needed for safe, responsible and effective use of agrichemicals.

This one-day course, tutored by accredited NZ Agrichemical Education Trust trainers, will greatly enhance your employability in the agriculture and horticulture sectors.

The course is held on a Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Content Details

The programme is based on two unit standards:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the HSNO Act and NZS 8409:2004 for the use of agrichemicals (21563)
  • Prepare to apply, and apply agrichemicals (21564)

Topics include: 

  • The HSNO Act and the obligations and liabilities of agrichemical users
  • Hazardous substance classification and controls
  • Approved Handler certification
  • Transport and storage of agrichemicals
  • Personal protection equipment
  • Calibration of application equipment
  • Regional Authority Air Plan
  • Use of agrichemicals
  • Documentation of agrichemical use
  • Disposal
  • Emergency planning

Entry

Proof of practical competence with agrichemical use (e.g. completion of the ERMA Assessment of Practical Competence Form 3 and copies of your appropriate spray diaries) is needed to complete the requirements for issue of the Growsafe® Introductory Certificate.

Indicative Fees

  • $414

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

Upon successful completion of the programme you will receive:

  • Growsafe® Introductory Certificate
  • NZQA Unit Standards 21563 and 21564

Completion of the unit standards, along with evidence of your practical competence, will provide sufficient evidence to allow a test certifier to issue you with a five-year Approved Handler Certificate.
