National Certificate in Horticulture (Fruit Production Strand) Level 4

Once you've got the first year or sufficient experience under your belt (National Certificate in Horticulture (Fruit Production Strand) Level 2) you can commence this course of study while you continue to work in the industry.

This is the second year of a three year, part-time programme, designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work independently and become an effective leader in the horticulture industry. This year offers more specialist topics of study.

Content Details

In this second year of the programme you'll specialise in various fruit production units covering on-orchard and post-harvest practices.

Work Experience
Your learning will be complemented with the practical work carried out by you in your every day employment. Bay of Plenty Polytechnic staff will visit you and your employer in the workplace to ensure your study is on-track.

Entry

It is preferable that you are either employed, have previous experience, or wish to further your knowledge in the horticulture industry. You may be required to attend an interview to confirm your suitability.

To gain entry to the Level 4 programme you must hold the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) Level 2.

English Language Requirements

If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $150 Year 2 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Completion of the full programme enhances your opportunities to gain promotions and work as a packhouse manager/supervisor, coolstore manager, field services operations, in sales and marketing or research, as a property manager, in orchard leasing, or contracting.
