Are you working in the post-harvest sector? We now have a cadet option for you.

Post-harvest work has now become specialised and requires a high level of skills. Study this part-time programme while you work to increase your career options.

The programme has been developed to give you a background in the core horticultural sciences, with options in specialist areas for your chosen field. This knowledge will be an invaluable asset as you progress through your horticultural career.

Many students choose to continue on for one more year (part-time) to the National Certificate in Horticulture (Post-Harvest Strand) Level 4.

Content Details

General Horticulture Skills
Learn general horiculture skills including record keeping for horticulture activities.

Health & Safety
Understand how to be safe in the work environment.

Plant Science
This course looks at plant structure, function, plant processes, life-cycles and plant identification.

Soils and Fertilisers
Learn about soil environments, the use of fertilisers and how they affect plant growth.

Plant Propagation
Gain an understanding of the different methods of plant propagation.

Pests and Diseases
Learn to identify plant pests, diseases, disorders, and how to control them.

Entry

It is preferable that you are either employed, have previous experience, or wish to further your knowledge in the horticulture industry.

You may be required to attend an interview to confirm your suitability.

English Language Requirements

If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $150

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.
