Marine Engineer Class 6

Are you preparing to sit the Maritime New Zealand Marine Engineer Class 6 exam? This programme will ensure you have all the knowledge and skills you need.

This programme will enable you to describe the systems, safety devices and emergency procedures associated with the various engines, machinery and equipment commonly found on  coastal fishing vessels, and prepare you for the Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) Marine Engineer Class 6 examination.

The course takes place on Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm, with an examination held on the fifth day.

Examination Requirements

Sea-time
You must provide evidence of having completed 24 months sea service operating main propulsion machinery of commercial vessels or New Zealand warships including:

  • Twelve months working on diesel engines
  • Twelve months sea service within the last 10 years

Examination Application/Fee
It is recommended that you apply to MNZ at least 21 days before the programme begins to obtain your permit. You must have a MNZ permit to be allowed to sit your examination. There is a separate fee of $523.38 that you are required to pay to MNZ with your application (subject to change).

Indicative Fees

  • $656 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

Upon successful completion of the programme and meeting examination requirements, you will receive from MNZ:

  • Marine Engineer Class 6
