Got your NZ Coastal Master's? Need to upgrade to NZ Offshore Master's? This is your course.

Holders of New Zealand Coastal Master’s (NZCM) may upgrade to New Zealand Offshore Master’s by attending this Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) approved programme, which is eight weeks of the 14 week NZ Offshore Master’s programme.

Content Details

The programme includes the following courses:

  • Two weeks General Knowledge
  • Ship Stability
  • Oral Syllabus, Tutorial, Resits and Examinations

This programme includes two weeks that will allow you to complete some other ancillary requirements. If you already have radar, basic fire fighting, and sea survival craft you may only need to attend until 17 August. Please note that there are additional fees for any ancillary courses.

Entry

Examination Requirements

  • Must prove to MNZ that a minimum of 180 sea days have been served performing watchkeeping duties
  • Hold all the other Certificates required for New Zealand Offshore Masters qualification as outlined in the section under New Zealand Offshore Masters in this brochure

You will also be required to attend and complete the written assessments from the following General Knowledge syllabus:

  • Safe Ship Management
  • Pollution
  • Occupational Safety & Health (Part 2) of the Maritime Transport Act

Indicative Fees

  • $1,180 incl. course related fees

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Qualifications Gained

Upon successful completion of the programme and meeting examination requirements, you will receive from MNZ:

  • NZ Offshore Master Certificate of Competency
