Restricted Radar Observer's Certificate

Want to know how to work a ship's radar? This is the programme for you. Learn how to set up, tune and obtain a position and all the basic theory of operation. You'll be needing this certificate if you want to gain your ILM, NZOM, or NZOW.

Gain a level of competency to use radar as a navigational aid and for collision avoidance at sea.

The programme is five days, with the examination held on the fifth day, Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.00pm. It commences with two days of classroom theory followed by two days at sea, and the examination on Friday.

Content Details

You'll be taught the correct way to set up, tune and obtain a position on radar, as well as the basic theory of radar operation.

Note: The Restricted Radar Observer’s Certificate is a requirement of Inshore Launchmaster (ILM), New Zealand Offshore Master (NZOM) and NZ Offshore Watchkeeper (NZOW).

Entry

  • Twelve months sea-time.

The examination fee is included within the programme fee.

Indicative Fees

  • $650 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.

Upon successful completion of the programme and meeting examination requirements, you will receive:
