National Certificate in Real Estate (Salesperson) Level 4

If you'd like to become a real estate salesperson in New Zealand you need to be qualified. Successful completion of this flexible, full or part-time course will see you qualify with your National Certificate in Real Estate (Salesperson) Level 4.

This blended delivery programme will ensure you're familiar with the New Zealand real estate industry. Courses introduce you to the legal framework, marketing strategies, listing and selling, and you'll develop written and oral communication skills essential to success as a real estate professional in this field.

You must complete this qualification before you can be registered as a real estate salesperson.

Content Details

The programme comprises 4 courses:

The Legislative Environment

You will learn about and be able to explain the standards of conduct and the duties of a salesperson, the rules of client and customer care, the complaints procedure, and legal concepts, controls, restrictions and implications of various acts. (incl. Unit Standards 23136, 23141, 26149)

Appraisal

Learn to identify, interpret and apply sources of information to a specific property, explain the law relating to building documentation and requirements and implications of the Building Act 2004. You will also learn about the inspection and appraisal process, be able to demonstrate methods of appraisal and explain the legislative requirements of agency agreements and the law of contract as it related to real estate contracts. Marketing

Learn to identify real estate market segments to target customers and clients, develop positioning strategies, explain the purpose of a marketing plan, design a marketing plan and budget and analyse the results, develop promotional material, and demonstrate qualifying and sales techniques for particular properties. You will also be able to explain the various methods of sale for real estate. (incl. Unit Standards 15500, 23140, 26150)

Land Ownership and Transfer

Learn about property law terminology, property titles, law relating to property ownership, and the transfer of land and goods as applied to real estate sales contracts. You will also learn how to draft and negotiate an Agreement for Sale and Purchase of Real Estate and be able to demonstrate knowledge of finance options, requirements for international buyers and after-sales service. (incl. Unit Standards 23134, 23137)

Entry

You must demonstrate the capacity to understand requirements and instructions, and communicate to the required industry level. This must be evidenced by one of the following:

  • a minimum of 8 level 2 NCEA credits in English - 4 in writing and 4 in reading
  • or, the demonstration of equivalent knowledge and skills

Police Vetting
In order to be employed as a real estate salesperson you will be subject to a police check

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 500.

Indicative Fees

  • $1,864 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.
