Bachelor of Tourism (BTour)

Delivered in Partnership with the University of Waikato.

With a Bachelor of Tourism under your belt you'll be joining the world's fastest-growing industry at a time when your combination of practical business skills and industry knowledge will be the most valuable.

The Bachelor of Tourism (BTour) develops a constructive and critical understanding of tourism based on practical industry orientated research. You'll take courses on the structure of tourism organisations, economic, cultural and environmental impacts of tourism, future developments and effective management.

Completing relevant New Zealand Diploma in business courses with a B grade average will credit to the BTour.

Content Details

The BTour requires you to complete 20 papers studying full-time over three years or the equivalent time for part-time study. You'll require a B grade average, and a minimum B grade for papers 510 and 560 (if taken), to guarantee credit towards the BTour.

University of Waikato Papers (10 papers)
You enrol with the University of Waikato for 10 papers, one of which will be an unspecified credit towards NZDipBus. One further NZDipBus compulsory paper is needed to meet the  requirements of the NZ Diploma in Business. Students should contact the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic’s NZDipBus Group Leader to ensure correct paper selection.

Entry

If you are under 20 years of age you must have:

  • A minimum of 14 numeracy credits at level 1 or higher in mathematics or Pangarau on the National Qualifications Framework
  • 50 credits at level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of 3 subjects including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Mäori; 4 credits must  be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing. The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards
  • or, equivalent to the above

If you are over 20 years of age this requirement may be waived. The selection process may include an information evening. The group leader may allow students discretionary entry on a case-by-case basis, if they are satisfied that the student has the necessary skills and support to succeed in the programme.

The Group Leader, New Zealand Diploma in Business, may allow students on a case-by-case basis, discretionary entry if satisfied that the student has the necessary skills and support to succeed in the programme.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 550.
