Want to work in a travel agency as a domestic travel consultant? This programme has been devised in collaboration with the tourism and travel industry and is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills you'll need to get a great job in the travel industry.

Gain the skills to make computerised reservations for national and international travel and accommodation.

This programme's courses will get you ready for employment in travel agencies and related tourism industries. You'll gain communication and sales skills and knowledge of tourism destinations, both locally and internationally.

Content Details

Travel Industry Knowledge
This course includes world travel geography, travel industry terminology, travel products and legal rights and responsibilities of employers in a tourism workplace.

International Travel Advice
On completion of this course you will be able to advise clients of regulatory requirements and support mechanisms available for specific needs relating to international travel. You will be able to identify and access relevant travel information and explain travel industry brochures and documentation to clients.

Retail Travel Sales
You will be able to use effective sales and communication skills to advise clients and sell travel products and services including travel insurance and foreign exchange over the telephone and face-to-face.

Retail & Wholesale Travel Operations
This course will enable you to explain travel operations processes, provide quotations, complete reservations, produce documentation and process travel arrangements for clients in both retail and wholesale travel workplaces. You will learn to use a travel management system to manage client files and process travel arrangements.

Computer Reservations
On completion of this course you will be able to use a computer reservations system to complete short-haul and domestic air and ground travel reservations and process domestic air travel arrangements.

Field Trips
As part of this programme you’ll participate in arranging two short field trips for the class. Past excursions have taken us to wholesalers, airports and travel related industries. The trip  includes talks given by industry professionals as well as providing you with the opportunity to visit and inspect important components of the industry.

Entry

National Certificate in Tourism (Core Skills) Level 3 or equivalent skills and knowledge.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation.

You will be required to have an IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 550.

Indicative Fees

  • $4,386 incl. course related costs

The standard published fee is applicable for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

An international fee is payable for non New Zealand citizens/permanent residents.
