This part-time programme offers
avocado growers an opportunity to
expand their knowledge on how the
avocado plant grows, interacts with the
soil, and how management practices
on the orchard can affect plant and fruit
growth.
Content Overview
The programme has three courses
covering plant growth, soils and fertility,
and pest and disease management.

Plant Growth
(Unit Standards 22177 & 22178)
These units cover basic plant structure
and function - plant cells, tissues and
organs. Plant reproduction, including
pollination and fertilisation is introduced.
Also covered is plant processes and
the effects of the environment on these
processes, and an introduction to plant
life cycles. -
Soils and Fertility (Units 22174 & 22175)
These units cover an introduction to
soil types and properties. The role of
fertilisers is introduced, and also the
affects of soil and fertiliser management
on plant health and growth.
