This programme will qualify you as a beauty therapist. You’ll receive advanced training in electro technology and body therapy. The programme also covers advanced anatomy and physiology, electrology, figure analysis, and Swedish body massage.

You will have the opportunity to gain the prestigious internationally recognised Cidesco Diploma, which is highly sought after by employers within the beauty industry.

Note: this programme does not qualify students to practice massage or physiotherapy under the Physiotherapy Act 1949.
 

Entry

The minimum requirements for entry are:

Mature students with life and/or work experience who do  not meet these requirements but have the equivalent ability and experience are encouraged to apply.

English Language Requirements
If you are an overseas student or a new resident and English is not your first language, please note that study at tertiary level requires both written and oral participation. You may be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 or a TOEFL score of 500.

Qualifications Gained

  • Certificate in Beauty Therapy (Body Therapy and Electrology) Level 5 
  • National Certificate in Beauty Services (Electrology) Level 5

You will also be able to sit an examination for the CIDESCO Diploma.

Career Opportunities

Beauty therapy technician, beauty therapist, sales representative, work in gymnasiums, spas, cruise liners, resorts or self-employment.

At only 21, Lisa has taken her passion for beauty therapy one step further; she is the proud owner of the successful Sanctum Beauty Therapy Salon Located in downtown Mount Maunganui.

With a strong client base and great reputation in the community, Lisa has recently employed two Polytechnic graduates to work in her thriving salon.

The young entrepreneur always knew she would have a career in the beauty industry and she could not see herself doing anything else.

"I like the variety and everyday is different.  It keeps you on your toes."

Lisa chose to study in Tauranga over Auckland for the lifestyle.  Also she was recommended to study at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic by a family friend.

She enjoyed her programme and as a self-proclaimed hands-on learner, she reflects on some of the interesting aspects of her study.

"I really liked the anatomy and physiology and how it related to beauty therapy."

So what's next for Lisa?  She is already looking at possible franchising opportunities for her Sanctum Beauty Therapy Salon.  So watch this space!.
