"I discovered that to get into the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) I would need to complete year 13 and gain NCEA Level 3. Alternatively, I could complete the Polytechnic's National Certificate programme and then go on to the degree. I chose to enrol in the National Certificate because I really felt taking another year of subjects that had no relevance to my future career was wasting my time."
