Clinical Skills for the Health Care Assistant

If you have completed the Certificate in Health Care Assistance and would like to work in a clinical setting, this programme is for you. You will gain the skills to provide professional and effective support in a specified controlled clinical environment under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Entry Criteria

  • Certificate in Health Care Assistance Level 4
  • OR be currently working as a health care assistant in a clinical setting and can provide evidence of underpinning knowledge and skills in:
    • basic anatomy and physiology
    • patient communication
    • patient safety
    • cultural awareness
    • holistic wellness

Dementia Care Level 4

12 weeks, part-time
June
Windermere Campus

This course will enable you to provide safe and therapeutic care to people affected by dementia. The Ministry of Health requires that all care-givers directly involved in caring for subsidised residents in dementia units have achieved competence in unit standards 23920, 23921, 23922 and 23923. This course will provide the essential knowledge and skills required when working with residents affected by dementia.

Entry Criteria

The course is appropriate for nurses, rest-home staff, community workers, volunteers and other health professionals who work with dementia sufferers.

Diabetes an Introduction to Care and Management Level 4

12 weeks, part-time
July

Learn how to effectively and appropriately care for those with diabetes. This course was created in partnership with, and supported by, the District Health Board (DHB) in order to educate people with diabetes and their families, the general public and health care providers.

Entry Criteria

The course is appropriate for people who work with, or have regular contact with people with diabetes.
