Research at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic is important for developing our knowledge base, supporting quality learning and teaching, building relationships with key stakeholders locally and nationally, and promoting the professional development of staff.

Diving in Niue

Taiorangahau – Pacific Coast Applied Research Centre supports research by:

  • Actively fostering, supporting and mentoring researchers
  • Ensuring the provision of adequate resources for research
  • Monitoring and supporting research activities to ensure high quality and ethical standards
  • Assisting researchers to publish and present their findings

Research partnerships with other tertiary providers, with local iwi and hapu, and with industry and business contribute to positive outcomes for students by ensuring relevance of course content and quality of programme delivery.

"Over the past three years I've led the development of the Ahumoana a Toi Aquaculture Centre and now run two research programmes; one on the hatchery production of echinoderms, namely sea cucumber and sea urchin, and the other examining the effect of ocean acidification and sea surface temperature increase on sea urchin larval life cycle characteristics."
