BAYERBoost aims to give tertiary undergraduate students work experience in environmental research or restoration during their summer break, while providing financial support to assist them with further study.

It is funded by Bayer New Zealand and administered by the Royal Society of New Zealand. Organisations to date that have agreed to act as host organisations for students include AgResearch, Landcare, Department of Conservation, Dexell and NIWA.

The objective of the scheme is to foster and support New Zealanders in their understanding and awareness of New Zealand’s unique environments and the issues surrounding it. It's planned to achieve this objective by enabling young New Zealanders to:

  • experience the application and use of science and technology in environmental studies
  • gain experience in working with an accredited organisation involved in research or action for the environment
  • recognise environmental studies as rewarding and worthwhile career options
  • enhance understanding of, and positive attitudes toward science and technology

BAYERBoost scholarships are available for the summer vacation period i.e. from 10 – 12 weeks to enable students to engage in practical work with host organisations in a specific environmental project.

More information about BAYERBoost is available through the website www.bayerboost.co.nz.
