It has strengths across a broad range of subject areas, particularly its degrees in Computer Science and in Management.

The Auckland University of Technology (AUT) (Maori: Te Wananga Aronui o T?maki Makau Rau) is the newest university in New Zealand. It was formed on 1 January 2000 when the Auckland Institute of Technology was granted university status. Its primary campus is on Wellesley Street in Auckland's Central business district (CBD).

Waiariki Institute of Technology,(Maori: Whare Takiura o Waiariki) based in Rotorua, is one of the largest tertiary institutes in New Zealand outside of universities. Originally developed as a centre for adult and trades education, the institute began to offer bachelor degree programmes in the early 1990s. The main Rotorua campus is set in clean, green and safe rural surroundings only ten minutes from the city centre. Regional campuses exist in Taupo, Tokoroa and Whakatane.
