Who Can Use the Tauranga Libraries?
All Toi Ohomai students and employees have free access to the library collections in both Windermere and Bongard Ako Atea, and online. Library

Partnership students and employees from University of Waikato have free, full access to the print and DVD collections, but should use their own institution’s libraries for online resources.

Non-partnership University of Waikato students (online or Hamilton-based courses) and employees can borrow up to ten items from the physical collections, but should use their own institution’s libraries for full collections and online resources.

How to Borrow
Your student or employee ID card is your library card and you must present this to borrow library items. You can borrow up to fifty items at any one time.

As you are responsible for all items borrowed on your ID card, it’s recommended that you don’t lend these items to anyone else. Remember to always renew or return items on time. Fees are charged on recalled items that are returned late.

Library Account
You have access to your own library account via the My Library Account feature in the catalogue. This allows you to renew items, place requests and check your due dates. To access My Library Account you’ll need your student ID number or employee number for staff.

Loan Times
The standard loan time is two weeks for students and four weeks for employees.
High demand items are issued for one week, or three days. Items may be recalled if they’re needed by someone else.

Course Reserve
Resources that are in high demand or required for assignments may be placed on Course Reserve by your tutor. Course Reserve items are issued for two hours, for use only in Ako Atea or overnight.
Items can be issued one hour before closing time and must be returned within one hour of opening the following business day. Late items are subject to recall fees.

Renewals
Renewal is from the date renewed. Three renewals are allowed but an item will not be renewed if another borrower has place a request on that item.

Returning Items
Place items in the Returns bin located in each Ako Atea. If Ako Atea is closed, return items in the after-hours return bins near the entrance.
To return items by post, address to Ako Atea, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, Private Bag 12001, Tauranga 3143.

Recall Fees
Fees are charged on recalled items that are returned late. Recall fees for standard loan items are $3 per day following the current due date, up to a maximum of $30 per item. Recall fees for overdue Course Reserve items are $1 per hour up to a maximum of $30 per item.

Replacement Charges
If you lose or damage a library item you will need to play the replacement costs. If items are not returned within 12 weeks past the due date, or are returned damaged, an invoice for the replacement and associated administration charges will be sent to you. Once invoiced, items may NOT be returned for a refund.

Request an Item
To make a request, go to the Library Catalogue, search for the item you want, then click ‘Make a Request’ and follow the instructions. There are three options for requesting an item:

  • Recall: For an item currently on loan that you required urgently (within the next two weeks)
  • Hold: For an item currently on loan that is non-urgent
  • Hold Available: For an item that is on the shelf in the Windermere or Bongard library collections, that you want to be put aside for you to collect.

You will receive a text and an email when the items are available for you to collect.
