CAD for Architectural Drawing 1
This course is designed to support the students who are enrolled in the New Zealand Diploma in Architectural Technology with the CAD skills required to complete that programme.
CAD for Architectural Drawing 1 is project based and runs alongside the Diploma programme, however it's also open to people from industry who wish to learn CAD skills.
The software we currently teach is ArchiCAD and once enrolled students have access to a free student software licence for the year (available for PC or MAC).
Topics covered during the course:
- Three dimensional modelling
- Navigate around the CAD programme
- Create 3D photographic renders
- Editing of 3D entities
- Use 2d tools to enhance drawings
- Editing of 2D entities
- Customise CAD settings to suit a specific project
- Use CAD image tools
- Make layouts and print/plot
Classes are held Mondays and Thursdays with a 2 hour session either in the morning or the afternoon.

Entry Criteria - Summary
Academic Requirements - for school leavers
- at least 10 literacy credits at level 1
- at least 10 numeracy credits at level 1
- AND at least 28 credits at level 2 or above
- At least 48 credits in NCEA level 2 in 4 subjects including credits in English and maths
Students who do not satisfy the standard academic entry requirements of a programme will be considered for special admission if, in the opinion of the Programme Coordinator, they are capable of achieving the programme outcomes.
Full-time and part-time Architectural Technology students will have first rights to enrolment. Students from other diploma programmes will be accepted next. People currently employed or recently employed in the construction industry may also be considered.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTSInternational applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years, before being eligible to enrol in any non-English programme. The level of competency required is outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013. And below under the title English Competency.
Level 3 certificate IELTS General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language L3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013.
For domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required.
