New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2)

Are you an overseas immigrant? Do you need to improve your English language skills? This short, practical certificate will help you – and it's free for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents!

This course of study provides you with an opportunity to increase your literacy, language and numeracy so that you can achieve your goals, and to support entry into other courses you may want to apply for.Programme information for international students

You’ll go on field trips throughout the local area to help boost your confidence so you can fully participate in New Zealand society. It also opens up employment options for you and paves the way to further tertiary study.

The course of study is available at three levels. You'll go through some orientation and placement tests to work out which one's best for you.

Content Details

You’ll study a range of topics, focusing on:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking
  • Listening
  • Critical thinking
  • Problem solving

Numeracy and communication technology are included in the learning, in day-to-day life.

You'll also have the opportunity to spend some time in other courses of study and activities.

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2) is made up of:

  • Pre-intermediate English 1 (ESOL)
  • Pre-intermediate English 2 (ESOL)
  • Pre-intermediate English 3 (ESOL)
  • Pre-intermediate English 4 (ESOL)

Duration: 1 semester

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2) is 17 study weeks plus holiday breaks.

Classes are usually held 9.00am-3.00pm, Tuesday to Friday.

2018 international students $390 per week

Applicants participate in orientation and placement tests to identify the most suitable level of study. This involves assessments of literacy and study skills; self-identification of strengths, weaknesses, and study readiness, as well as an interview with a course advisor.
