Passenger Endorsement

Do you want to be a taxi or bus driver? Consider this course of study which will give you the knowledge and confidence to operate a 'P' (Passenger) endorsement vehicle.

The dates are a guide only. After you have enrolled and paid for this course we will post you study books to be completed in your own time, at your own pace.

On completion of this pre-course work you contact the tutor and a mutually agreeable time is arranged to attend a day in class for the  assessment/s.

There is no practical requirement for this course, it is theory only and provides a P endorsement on your current full New Zealand drivers licence.

Note course related costs are paid directly into your bank account by StudyLink and you will be required to pay this to Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.

Qualifications Gained

Upon successful completion of the programme you will be able to meet licencing requirements for NZTA driver licence 'P' endorsement.

Entry Criteria

You must:

  • have held your full NZTA Class 1 driver license (car) for more than 2 years, using manual transmission
  • obtain an NZTA DL9 medical certificate (available from your medical practitioner) just prior to the start of the programme
  • obtain a 'Fit and Proper Persons' check through the AA
  • be able to read and comprehend various transport laws and regulations. You will need at least NCEA Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Note: If the Class 1 practical driver's test was taken more than 5 years ago you will be required to re-sit the test.
