Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Level 8)

If you want to advance your scholarly research and improve your practical management skills, the Postgraduate Diploma in Management is for you.

By selecting one of the endorsements, you will build on your prior learning within the field of business, health, hospitality, or information technology, and extend your management capabilities to find solutions to complex problems in actual business environments.

Through independent study you’ll learn to apply an advanced level of knowledge, employing critical enquiry, strategic analysis and problem-solving skills in a relevant management context. 

The course will enable you to operate at an advanced standard, include the ability to develop and apply new skills and techniques to existing or emerging issues, and articulate theory and practice within your chosen management scope.

Content Details

The papers that make up this postgraduate diploma have a value of 15 credits each. You will be required to successfully complete a total of 120 credits to gain the qualification of Postgraduate Diploma in Management with or without an endorsement. All students will complete the six compulsory papers, plus two more papers as indicated in the lists below.

Further Study

The Postgraduate Diploma in Management leads onto master’s level study, and within 18 months you could complete both the postgraduate diploma and the Master of Management at Toi Ohomai. Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations and the following criteria:

Standard Entry

  • A graduate diploma at Level 7 from Toi Ohomai, or a programme of academic study considered by the Postgraduate Board of Studies to be equivalent, OR
  • An undergraduate degree from Toi Ohomai, or a programme of academic study considered by the Postgraduate Board of Studies to be equivalent, OR
  • A bachelor honours degree, in a relevant field for the Postgraduate Diploma in Management, or B average in the Postgraduate Certificate in Management or equivalent at Level 8

Provisional Entry

  • Completion of a three year post-secondary school diploma in a related discipline at NZQA Level 7 or equivalent from a recognised tertiary provider, and demonstration of at least three years equivalent practical or professional experience at a managerial level with at least two written references, OR
  • Demonstration of at least five years equivalent practical or professional experience at a senior management level, evidence of ability to study at postgraduate qualification level and three written referee's (employer and character) recommendations to accompany the application

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years, before being eligible to enrol in any non-English programme. The level of competency required is outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013. And below under the title English Competency.

English Competency

Level 8 Post-graduate Diploma or Post-graduate Certificate at Level 8, Bachelor Honours Degree at Level 8, Master’s Degree at Level 9, Doctoral Degree at Level 10 IELTS Academic score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language L5 with the Academic or Professional Endorsement or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013.

For domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required.
